Effects of a boiled brown algae Kjellmaniella crassifolia (BK. C.) on the growth and the ingestion and excretion of cholesterol were investigated using male Sprague-Dawley rats fed a diet, containing 0.5% of cholesterol and 0.25% of sodium cholate together with 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8 or 10% of BK. Zusammenfassung:Effects of a boiled brown algae Kjellmaniella crassifolia (BK. C. Total cholesterol in the serum reduced in BK. C. group. The level of triglyceride tends to be lower than that of the group fed control diet in the case of BK. C. addition of 2, 3, 4, 5, and 8%. There was no significant decrease in the liver lipid in the BK. C. group. The rate of cholesterol excretion into feces of BK. C. group showed some fluctuation, but did not differ from that of the group fed control diet.
