The Life and Work of Peace Psychologist Ed Cairns: Introduction to the Special Section

Ed Cairns, first international President of APA Division 48 and Fellow of both APA and the British Psychological Society, was tragically killed in a car accident on February 16, 2012. This special section on the life and work of Cairns has its origin in a series of collaborations by his colleagues and friends from around the world. Taken together, these four articles confirm that Cairns was rightfully a scholar of international renown and that his influence continues to be in the vanguard of theory, research, and practice concerning group identity, intergroup conflict, intergroup conflict reduction, and the building of positive intergroup relations.
