Evaluation of liver protein due to stress under 2,4-D intoxication in Channa punctatus (Bloch.)

Biochemical changes in liver protein were examined in the catfish, Channa punctatus, after exposure to 1125-1750 ppm 2,4-D herbicide for 24-96 h. A decline in protein content was evident with an increase in exposure time. Protein values recorded at an exposure of 600 ppm for 24, 48, 72, and 96 h wer...

Zusammenfassung:Biochemical changes in liver protein were examined in the catfish, Channa punctatus, after exposure to 1125-1750 ppm 2,4-D herbicide for 24-96 h. A decline in protein content was evident with an increase in exposure time. Protein values recorded at an exposure of 600 ppm for 24, 48, 72, and 96 h were 6.8, 5.8, 3.4, and 3.3 mg/g, respectively. The altered protein content may stem from damage to hepatic tissue and increased proteolysis on exposure to the herbicide.
