Zusammenfassung: | Cathodic potential oscillation of the tin electrode in an alkaline solution of 0.23M SnO + 6.25M KOH was observed for current densities higher than 300 Am-2. The hydrogen evolution reaction appeared only at the first potential drop. Potential oscillation started afterwards without hydrogen production. The duration of the oscillation period increased with time, and the potential amplitude decreased progressively until it finally stopped. Potential oscillation was not observed with concentrations higher than 0.27M Sn(II) or lower than 0.18M Sn(II) in solution. The possible mechanism of the cathodic protection oscillation is discussed. |
