On the measurement and interpretation of photosynthetic light-response curves in algae in the context of photoinhibition and diel changes (1993, J. Phycol. 29:729-39)

Richard Vance (pers. commun.) recently brought to my attention a possible source of confusion on the photosynthesis-irradiance (P-I) curve equations published in my recent review (Henley 1993). I failed to state explicitly that all of the equations were of the general form: net P sub(i) = gross P sub(m)(f(I, alpha , gross P sub(m))) + R sub(d), where P sub(i) is the net exchange rate of O sub(2) or CO sub(2) at irradiance i, P sub(m) is the light-saturated rate of gross photosynthesis, f(I, alpha , gross P sub(m)) denotes the various empirical functions, and R sub(d) is the (negative) rate of respiration in darkness.
