Metabolism of hexachlorobenzene in the fry of steelhead trout, Salmo gairdneri (Oncorhynchus mykiss)

Zusammenfassung:Dietary intake of hexachlorobenzene (HCB) by 10 g body weight steelhead trout fry, Salmo gairdneri, attained equilibrium in 12-14 d. On cessation of feeding, absorbed HCB was eliminated in 7 d. HCB was metabolized to low concentrations of pentachlorophenol (PCP) which conjugated with glucuronic acid. PCP was also produced in-vitro by the hepatic microsomal P-450 of larger fry. Twenty days after exposure, 1 g fry showed traces only of 2,5-dichloro, 2,3,6-trichloro- and 2,4,5-trichlorophenol.
