The promise of political science. The 10th Congress of the Argentina Society of Political Analysis in Comparative Perspective

On August 9, 1982, in the wonderful auditorium of the National Hotel in Rio de Janeiro, President Joao Figueiredo inaugurated the XII World Congress of the International Political Science Association (IPSA). Over 1500 students of this discipline met in Rio to discuss, for a week, 900 works-from the most diverse angles - trying to answer the central question of the conference: How to achieve in the 80 consolidating societies from their respective states; how to make these societies, above regional differences or political regimes are able to conjure up the fallacies of arrogant power and find new ways of converting the state apparatus in servers of civil society.
