Zusammenfassung: | Honey is a natural and sweet substance produced by honeybees from the nectar of flowers. It is composed of sugars, acids, proteins, vitamins, enzymes and minor ingredients. It is a readily available source of glucose and fructose and thus has an important role in food and medicine. Honey also functions as an antibiotic agent on few strains of bacteria. To analyze this function, different strains of bacteria were collected and cultured under laboratory conditions. The effect of different concentrations of honey on these bacterial strains was tested. It is found that the honey samples showed antimicrobial activity on different bacterial strains. The minimum inhibitory zones of different strains of bacterial plates were recorded. The honey samples collected from Coorg district showed higher antimicrobial activity than the other regions of Karnataka. |
