Zusammenfassung: | Acid volatile sulfide (AVS) influences metal bioavailability in sediment and is considered a key normalization phse for the development of sediment quality criteria for metals. Seasonal trends in AVS concentrations were monitored monthly for 16 months in sediment cores from three lakes in northeastern Minnesota. AVS levels varied inversely with sediment depth, and concentrations varied seasonally by as much as two orders of magnitude. Seasonal concentration profiles were directly related to changes in water temperature. |
