Use of Paromomycin for the Treatment of Cryptosporidiosis in Patients with AIDS

We read with interest the recent article by Fichtenbaum et al. on the use of paromomycin for the treatment of cryptosporidiosis in patients with AIDS. Our experiences with this agent also have been largely favorable, but long-term administration has often been required. We treated six AIDS patients who had cryptosporidiosis; for four patients, diagnosis was made by examination of stool specimens, for two patients by biopsy of the small bowel.
