Biodegradation of poly-β-hydroxyalkanoates in a lake sediment sample increases bacterial sulfate reduction

The addition of a poly-beta-hydroxyalkanoate (PHA) to incubation bottles containing anaerobic sediment from Lake Ciso in Spain was correlated with an increase in sulfide production.
