Zusammenfassung: | As a result of the substantial harvesting of most of Chile's natural forests, tree planting was initiated, with major success for the Radiata pine and some eucalyptus species. Tree improvement efforts in Chile for improving productivity and quality are discussed. Radiata seed orchards have been established to allow for controlled pollination and tree selection. Planting trials of eucalyptus species are under way. Programs for propagation and improvement of other trees are described. |
