Exploration of the Situation of School Sports Education in Both North and South Song Dynasty from "Record on Education"

This paper applies the method of literature to analyze sports status from 376 pieces of Record on Education articles in the Northern Song Dynasty (960-1127) to the Southern Song Dynasty (1127-1279), including the primary level, town level, county level, state level, as well as Confucius record on education, temple record on education and military record on education. Main conclusion: In Song dynasty, physical education was of great importance, sports were an indispensable support for the training of talents who were well-educated and trained in military exercises; sports were important tools for building sound morality, obtaining knowledge by investigation; sports were integral parts of perfect life; sports were the indispensable contents of the harmonious development of body and mind; sports should bear the duty of social education and guidance; sports popularization and sports improvement coexisted. It is recommended that the current reform of physical education should use physical education in Song Dynasty
