Highly directional swimming by scalloped hammerhead sharks, Sphyrna lewini, and subsurface irradiance, temperature, bathymetry, and geomagnetic field

In an attempt to discover their mechanisms of navigation in the oceanic environment, the homing behavior of scalloped hammerhead sharks between Espiritu Santo Seamount and Las Animas Island was studied. A comparison of the movements of the sharks to and from a seamount to topographic features in bat...

Zusammenfassung:In an attempt to discover their mechanisms of navigation in the oceanic environment, the homing behavior of scalloped hammerhead sharks between Espiritu Santo Seamount and Las Animas Island was studied. A comparison of the movements of the sharks to and from a seamount to topographic features in bathymetry and geomagnetic field leading away from the seamount is detailed.
