Respiration rates of copepod nauplii with a comparison of metazoan and protozoan metabolism

The respiration rates of copepod nauplii from inshore waters were measured with a gradient diver technique. The range of body size of nauplii was 0.21-0.61 mu g dry weight, and the respiration rates measured were 0.00242-0.00643 mu l O sub(2) animal super(-1) h super(-1) at 15-25 degree C. The respi...

Zusammenfassung:The respiration rates of copepod nauplii from inshore waters were measured with a gradient diver technique. The range of body size of nauplii was 0.21-0.61 mu g dry weight, and the respiration rates measured were 0.00242-0.00643 mu l O sub(2) animal super(-1) h super(-1) at 15-25 degree C. The respiration rates obtained here were comparable with values calculated from the known relationships between respiration rates and body mass for protozoans and larger metazoans. This result indicates that respiration rate-body mass relations of metazoans and protozoans are directly connected.
