Zusammenfassung:The purpose of this study was to examine the impact of intense human traffic in a tropical rain forest on the abundance and activity periods of wildlife by comparing the large-mammal communities of two lowland areas in and near the Gunung Leuser National Park of northern Sumatra, Indonesia. This park has not in historic times been inhabited by forest-dwelling people or hunter-gatherer tribes. The parts away from major rivers are therefore basically pristine.
