Allowance for self-absorption in the gamma-ray spectrometry of volume sources

A computational method is developed for taking into account the self-absorption of gamma rays in bulk samples in the ranges of energies 0.1-3 MeV and densities 0.2-2 g/cm^sup 3^, which are typically encountered in radioecology. Experimental confirmation is obtained for calculations in standard measu...

Zusammenfassung:A computational method is developed for taking into account the self-absorption of gamma rays in bulk samples in the ranges of energies 0.1-3 MeV and densities 0.2-2 g/cm^sup 3^, which are typically encountered in radioecology. Experimental confirmation is obtained for calculations in standard measurement geometries: Marinelli 0.5-liter and 1-liter, and Denta 0.1-liter: The advantages in accuracy of the relative self-absorption coefficients used in the article are demonstrated.[PUBLICATION ABSTRACT]
