Efficient grazing and utilization of the marine cyanobacterium Synechococcus sp. by larvae of the bivalve Mercenaria mercenaria

Clearance, ingestion, carbon retention and growth rates for bivalve larvae of Mercenaria mercenaria L. grazing on laboratory cultures of a marine Synechococcus sp. are examined. The growth response of larvae to experimental diets was found to be dependent on cell concentration and prey species.
