Influence of antibodies transferred by colostrum in the immune responses of calves to current foot-and-mouth disease vaccines

Highlights • Calves were immunized with commercial foot-and-mouth disease vaccine. • Calves with or without colostral antibodies were included in two vaccination trials. • Humoral responses were assessed, using traditional and novel techniques. • Maternal antibodies interfered with the induction virus neutralizing responses. • Total antibody assessment did not reveal the same magnitude of interference.
