Zusammenfassung:: SSC local dimming algorithm is an effective method to control the LED backlight for maximum power saving of LCDs. In a former paper we proposed add‐ons to the SSC frame named Correlator and Combiner which enhance the static contrast ratio or achieve further power saving depending on different Combiner modes. However, the uniformity of the finally displayed image cannot be guaranteed. Uniformity in general is one of the major challenges of local dimming strategies, especially for edge‐lit types. Therefore, a new algorithm named Correlation‐enhanced SSC is proposed by integrating the Correlator values into the process of the SSC local dimming. Two variations of this new approach with different advantages are illustrated and verified. The hardware cost is also reduced because of the removal of the Combiner module.
