Zusammenfassung:Susana Narotzky's article on the way that her in-between social status shaped her identity before and during her career in anthropology will strike a familiar chord with many readers. She explains how her background and early educational experiences led her to seek multiple influences within and beyond anthropology in a remarkably diverse process of professional formation that was guided by her political engagement. Narotzky's article helps us appreciate why and how she has become one of the discipline's leading practitioners of international collaborations. Growing up in Catalonia during the Franco dictatorship and being somewhat displaced everywhere she lived have contributed to a trajectory that carried her from undergraduate studies at the University of Barcelona to graduate training at the New School of Social Research in New York, to an initial position at the Autonomous University of Madrid, and then to her current institutional home back at the University of Barcelona, along with a secondary affiliation with the University of Amsterdam.
