Improved isolation protocol to detect high molecular weight polysaccharide structures of Campylobacter jejuni

Simple detection of high molecular weight, LPS-like structures of Campylobacter jejuni is still an unsolved problem. A phenol-free extraction method for the detection of HMW polysaccharide was developed without the need for Western blot. This method provides a reliable technique for large-scale screening and comparative characterization study of different isolates. •We could visualize the HMW PS on strains showing LOS structures by other methods.•Modified method is widely applicable, simple, cheap and robust alternative.•Our method is unique, being phenol-free resulting to a less harmful assay.•This method is suitable for comprehensive, comparative and screening analyses.
