Prospects of increasing pelagic fish production from the continental shelf along the north eastern maritime states of India

Northeastern maritime States, West Bengal, Orissa and Andhra Pradesh together land 95,425 t of pelagic fish, which forms 48.9% of the annual marine fish production from the region. The rate of increase in the demersal and pelagic fish production in the region has been disproportionate. Over the years of fisheries development, the rate of production of demersal fish has gone up steadily whereas the increase in pelagic fish landings was comparatively less.
