Zusammenfassung:The great abundance of walruses (Odobenus rosmarus in the Gulf of St. Lawrence was documented by the earliest explorers and settlers. The species was reduced and eventually extirpated by exploitation. Occasional sightings have been reported from the eastern part of the north shore of the Gulf over the last century, but none from the central or southern Gulf. This article reports three sightings of walruses from the central and southern Gulf and the lower estuary in the early 1990s.
