Zusammenfassung: | Bacterial effects of ozone were studied, with particular reference to changes in enzyme activities in Escherichia coli. The enzyme alkaline phosphatase and beta-galactosidase were selected as characteristic location markers in the periplasm and cytoplasm respectively. The residual activities of these enzymes indicated the progress of the bacterial action of ozone. The activity of beta-galactosidase showed a more rapid decline than that of alkaline phosphatase in cells of E. coli. An equation expressing the survival rate of E. coli in terms of the amount of ozone supplied and parameters reflecting cell susceptibility was developed. |
