Zusammenfassung:The palezone shiner, an endangered cyprinid fish, is found only in one small stream in each of the Cumberland and Tennessee River drainages. The habitat, ecology, abundance, reproductive biology, and identifying features are summarized. In one of the streams where it occurs, this fish is threatened by toxic runoff from surface mining. Its limited distribution is correlated with increased agriculture and associated siltation of downstream reaches of these streams. Some protection to these streams is provided under the Kentucky Wild River designation and in the Daniel Boone National Forest, but no action has been taken to prevent further habitat degradation. Recommended conservation actions are listed.
