Risk of neuroblastoma, maternal characteristics and perinatal exposures: The SETIL study

Highlights • Our case-control study contributes to the knowledge on the risk factors for neuroblastoma, a common paediatric malignancy. • The study was population based, including 1044 controls and 153 NB cases, being one of the largest on this disease. • Exposure during pregnancy to chemical products or solvents increased the risk for neuroblastoma. • For mothers exposed to solvents OR was 2.0 (95%CI 1.0–4.1); for aromatic hydrocarbons OR was 9.2, 95%CI: 2.4–34.3. • OR for chemicals for domestic works or hair dye was higher for children 0–17 months (hair dye: OR = 5.5, 95%CI: 1.0–29.3).
