Zusammenfassung: | The warm-water ovulid gastropod Sulcocypraea mathewsonii (Gabb, 1869), previously known only from middle Eocene strata in southern and central California, is reported for the first time from middle Eocene strata in western Washington, as well as from an additional locality in southern California. The species is tentatively reported from middle Eocene strata in northwestern and southwestern Oregon. The Washington locality is the northernmost record of any ovulid, fossil or living, in the eastern Pacific, and extends the geographic range of this species northward 1100 km. The geologic range of Sulcocypraea is restricted to the earliest Eocene to early Oligocene. |
