Traces the history (16th-20th cs., but with an emphasis on the period from 1814 to the 1970s) and summarizes the typologies and organization of the documentary materials in the historical archives of the Opificio delle pietre dure in Florence. Views its evolution in relation to Florentine history, the patronage of the Granducal court and (after the Risorgimento), the input of regional and national civil authorities.
