Zusammenfassung:Epibionts and internal and external protozoan parasites of wild shrimps P. schmitti, P. brasiliensis, P. notialis, and P. subtilis of the northeast of Venezuela were studied. The prevalence was over 60 % and varied between 18.2 a 68 %. The epibionts interfered the movement, feeding, respiration and moulting of postlarvae. A morphological alteration of gill chambers caused by a green-blue algae was observed. The highest prevalence and mean infection grade were found in shrimps of high tide channels and closed bays such as Guacarapo.
