Zusammenfassung:A 1-dimensional model for light and suspended sediment levels and a dynamic wave model were developed for application to shallow lakes in The Netherlands. Output from the wave model served as input to the sediment model, since wind changes resulted in large variations in suspended sediment and a rapidly changing light climate in the water column. The wave model calculated the bottom shear stress due to turbulence and waves. The models were applied to Marken lake, a part of the former Zuiderzee area separated from Ijssel lake by a dike. Calibration and verification of the models showed the importance of a knowledge of the properties of the top layer of the bed.
