Zusammenfassung:	There are many silences in coverage of the uprisings in Egypt and Tunisia but perhaps the loudest is the absence of discussion of peasants or small farmers. The economic turmoil and authoritarianism that prompted the revolts had enormous impact in the countryside, yet cities continue to get more attention by far. In 2014, the year dedicated to family farming by the UN Food and Agricultural Organization, it is time to take belated stock of the plight of the peasantry.
