Zusammenfassung: | Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF) is made from municipal solid waste after the removal of metals, ceramics, and compostables. RDF from three companies (Lundell Manufacturing, Cherokee, IA; National Ecology Co, Timonium, MD; and Waste Management Inc, Oak Brook, IL) were analyzed for cellulose content, contaminants, and efficiency of conversion to ethanol by enzymatic saccharification and fermentation. The contaminants in the RDF included paper, plastics, aluminum foil, wood, cloth, styrofoam, sand, metal, and hair. The amount of ethanol obtained from the samples ranged from 316 l ethanol/metric ton for the Lundell RDF to 218 l ethanol/metric ton for the Waste Management RDF. |
