Biologic intoxication due to digitalis-like substance after ingestion of cooked toad soup

Intoxication due to ingestion or mouthing of toads is wells known to veterinarians. Dogs and cats develop severe symptoms that often result in a lethal outcome. Salivation, cyanosis and vomiting are common manifestations in dogs after toad ingestion. Neurologic symptoms may dominate the clinical picture in severe cases. In humans, mortality and convulsive disorders have been previously observed. Recently we en countered a patient with cardiopulmonary arrest and severe bradyarrhythmia after ingestion of toad soup.
