Zusammenfassung: | Ten years after the April 1986 nuclear accident at Chernobyl, Ukraine, the cesium 137 concentration in soils of sloping semi-natural ecosystems in four regions of Western Macedonia, Greece, was profiled. These regions were highly impacted by radionuclide deposition in the wake of the accident. The vertical migration velocity of super(137)Cs was in the 0.1-0.3 cm/yr range in the most contaminated areas. The bulk of the super(137)Cs deposited over the surface of the study areas was restricted to the upper 5 cm of soil. Reduced radionlcuide concentrations were measured with a decrease in altitude. |
