Zusammenfassung:The contribution of wind-driven cloud-water droplets to chemical and hydrological fluxes to terrestrial ecosystems is reviewed, with particular reference to cloud-water deposition on the forests of the Appalachians. Results from studies in the western U.S. and Europe are included for comparison with those from the Appalachians. Processes by which cloud water was deposited on vegetation, models used to simulate the process, estimates of both water and chemical deposition from clouds at several elevated forest sites in the eastern U.S. and future research requirements are reviewed, with constant reference to earlier studies. There are 80 references.
