Zusammenfassung: | Water hyacinth mats of various sizes and consisting of plants of various sizes and densities were towed to determine their hydrodynamic drag characteristics. The drag coefficient was found to vary with the width and length of the mat, and drag varied with plant size, population density and the square of towing velocity. Mats towed at velocities exceeding 0·4 m/s became unstable. Formulae developed are applicable to the design of in-water conveying systems and large raking systems. |
