Zusammenfassung: | Major and trace element composition of suspended particulate matter from two contrasting estuaries has been examined over an annual cycle. The results have been combined with corresponding data for dissolved trace metals to examine partitioning behaviour of six metals (Mn, Zn, Pb, Cu, Ni, Cd). Some important processes controlling SPM composition and partitioning behaviour are identified. Processes which are common to all estuaries are identified and distinguished from those which are site specific. These raise some important considerations for those involved either in the design of monitoring programmes or in modelling projects. |
