Zusammenfassung:Optimum conditions for citric acid production by Aspergillus niger in submerged culture were established. Some correlation was found between the ability of the fungus to produce citric acid and its capability to accumulate extracellular acid phosphatase. Mutagenization and passage on sodium citrate (10–25%) medium gave rise to eleven A. niger strains able to grow when the concentration was 25%. Two mutants showed an increase in citric acid production (8.8–25.7%), accompanied by the highest activity of acid phosphatase (43.1–46.6%).
