Zusammenfassung: | Ubiquinone (CoQ 10) plays an important role as an electron carrier between flavin-dependent dehydrogenases (complexes I and II) and complex III of the respiratory chain. A severe muscular CoQ 10 deficiency has recently been described in two female patients with hyperlactacidemia, encephalomyopathy, and low activities of complexes I-II and II-III. Perhaps, prenatal evaluation of CoQ 10 in chorionic villi and possibly in fetal liver could provide indications for a treatment in utero. |
