Zusammenfassung:The Hawaii Integrated Biofuels Research Programme was developing a technological and economic data base to facilitate commercial production of liquid fuel for transportation purposes using locally-grown biomass feedstocks. Cost-effective biomass plantation management and feedstock preparation strategies were developed, and methanol production by various thermochemical processes was evaluated. Biomass energy provided an alternative, convenient, renewable energy resource that could help to reverse the greenhouse effect by reducing atmospheric carbon dioxide.
