Precocene-induced effects on ovarian development in crickets

1. 1. Female crickets Acheta domesticus (L.) and Nemobius fasciatus (de Geer) with pre-vitellogenic ovaries were treated by surface contact with precocene I or II beginning 12hr after adult emergence. 2. 2. Zusammenfassung:1. 1. Female crickets Acheta domesticus (L.) and Nemobius fasciatus (de Geer) with pre-vitellogenic ovaries were treated by surface contact with precocene I or II beginning 12hr after adult emergence. 2. 2. Egg production decreased dose-dependently but transiently in both species after treatment with either compound. 3. 3. Ovarian development was normal in female A. domesticus administered juvenile hormone I concurrently with the onset of precocene treatment. 4. 4. Evidence for decreased feeding by precocene-treated females was observed in both species, and starvation retarded ovarian development in A. domesticus.
