Zusammenfassung:The need to tackle the results of years of neglect of underground pipelines in congested areas had caused trenchless technologies to be adopted in the U.S.A.. The common methods are summarized in a table, and a further table lists in-situ pipe renovation techniques. Auger boring and pipe jacking were most used in the U.S.A. and microtunnelling was increasing. Pipe bursting was employed in pipe replacement schemes. The oil industry used directional drilling widely. All the common renovation methods involving lining or coating were in use. The disruption caused by service connections was also being addressed by trenchless technology.
