Preface: On Philosophical Unity of the Four Books
The formation of the Confucian Four Books in the Song Period is not accidental or arbitrary but reflects a maturing view on the philosophical unity of Confucianism in the classical period which must be presupposed for a new development of Confucianism known as Neo-Confucianism.
