Operational experiences of Datawell waverider buoys

The experiences gained since 1980 in the use of Datawell waverider buoys under the long-term wave measurement projects applicable to coastal and ocean engineering problems at nine locations along the west and east coast of India are briefly described. Information on waverider buoys, mooring, deployment and retrieval techniques, and the type of wave recording system used etc. are presented. Various operational problems associated with measuring and recording equipment, leading sometimes to loss of valuable wave data etc. are also discussed. The damages occurring to the waverider mooring system due to natural as well as man-made causes including remedial measures adopted are briefly described.
