Zusammenfassung: | As recently reported by Delforge et al. Plesiomonas shigelloides is an infrequent cause of bacteremia; the majority of cases involve adults with an underlying medical condition. Another well-described group of patients with P. shigelloides bacteremia are neonates with meningitis, but bacteremia in older children appears to be a rarer event. Only two cases have been reported, involving a 10-year-old girl with sickle cell disease and a previously healthy 15-year-old girl. We now report the case of a child in whom P. shigelloides bacteremia developed while she was undergoing chemotherapy for leukemia. |
