Zusammenfassung: | Hybridization between bedbug species has given rise to criticism of the Recognition Concept (RC) of species. This instance of hybridization, however, takes place in a situation exactly as predicted by the RC, and its historical course also appears to have followed the classical pattern of negative heterosis predicted by the RC. It is misguided to assume that the practical use of species concepts in systematics automatically reflects the fundamental nature of such concepts. Suggestions are made on how to advance discussion between advocates of different species concepts. |
