Flow cytometry: Introduction and microbiological applications

Most readers have probably been exposed to the concept of flow cytometry, although recent reviews of the subject have focused primarily on the applications of this technology to hematology, immunology, and oncology, which are the applications most common in clinical laboratories. The goals of this article are to serve as an introduction to flow cytometry for laboratorians not familiar with this technology, and to review briefly the available literature on microbiological applications of flow cytometry.
