Zusammenfassung:This paper describes the fecundity and type of spawning behaviour of Astyanax schubarti, in Ibitinga Reservoir (21 degree 46'S-48 degree 59'W) Sao Paulo State, collected from June 1989 to May 1990. 31 mature females were examined and the average fecundity resulted 4924 ovocytes. For determination of type of spawning 145 females were used. It was observed that the spawning is discontinuos, with annual periodicity and higher frequency in December-January.
