Addresses the enormous amount of alcohol harm in New Zealand directly caused by very high numbers of risky drinkers and social tolerance of drunkenness. Refers to recent research quantifying the impact of alcohol presentations on the Christchurch Hospital emergency department (ED) and describing the drinking behaviour of people presenting as a result of alcohol use. Criticises the The Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act 2012 for its inadequacy at reducing alcohol-related harm.
